Quilt of the Month for August

Here is a beautiful quilt made by another one of our very talented clients.  This is what she had to say about this Quilt of the Month.

“Memories of Alaska” – quilt made by Diane Searer, Cerritos, CA

In the summer of 2015, my husband and I drove our camper from Southern California to Alaska and back—a 2-month long trip that covered 10,500 miles. Upon returning, I saw a quilt pattern on the eQuilter.com web site that reminded me of the animals we saw on that trip, so I ordered the pattern and the kit of fabrics. The pattern was called “Aurora Borealis” and the fabric line was “Creatures of the Wild” by Robert Kaufman. Upon completing the top, I realized there was a glaring mistake! The good folks at eQuilter.com sent me replacement fabric for the bad block. However, I put it aside to “fix later” and it languished.

Fast forward 2 years: I was looking for something else and found a bag containing this unfinished quilt top. I took it apart, fixed the bad block, and finished the quilt. Paul and Julie at J & P Quilters quilted it with an overall pattern in variegated thread that perfectly compliments the marbleized fabrics in the blocks. This beautiful pattern reminds me daily of our wonderful trip to Alaska.

This quilt measured approx 48″ x 66″and was quilted using a Free Swirls pattern with King Tut Pharaoh’s Tale variegated thread, and Hobbs 80/20 Black batting was used in the middle for a little extra “snap”.
