Quilt of the Month – April 2013

April’s Quilt of the Month is a quilt that was the first quilt I (Paul) ever made..  It is a Sudoku Quilt.  I made it several years ago and it has remained a UFO until just recently.  I have made and completed several quilts since then, but for some reason this one remained unfinished

I used 9 different fabrics cut into 6 1/2″ squares and put together in  a simple 9 Patch pattern.  The squares in each block are arranged so they do not repeat in each block, or all the way across the quilt or even down the quilt in a row.  I put sashing between the blocks and then two different size borders around the outside.  It measures a total of 72 x 69 and was quilted using a Swirl design edge to edge with Hobbs 80/20 batting.

This is a very fun pattern to design and work with.  You have to be alert and really pay attention to what you are doing.  Now we use it daily on the couch in the family room.
