Got a closet full of shirts or other clothes you just don’t know what to do with ? ? Well, one of our clients had a great idea. She didn’t want to throw them away but didn’t have use for them anymore. She decided to convert them to a very handsome quilt for her husband that turned out fantastic !
“It’s a labor of love and a one-of-a-kind (but then, isn’t every quilt?). My husband wore his Hawaiian shirts to work every day throughout his career with Boeing. When they said Aloha to him two years ago, he was left with a closet full of Hawaiian shirts.
Trying my hand at quilting for the first time, I found this pattern, Fandango. I found it in the book DEVOTED TO SCRAPS, Best of Quiltmaker. It suited my husband’s artistic taste and easily consumed almost all of the retired shirts as well. The blue backing fabric was found at M & L Fabrics in Buena Park.

Franny’s quilt measures approx 66″ x 76″ and was quilted using a Waves pattern with Perma Core’s China Blue thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting. We also sewed on the binding on that Franny provided that put the perfect final touches on the very handsome quilt.
